OLYMPIC FABRICATION, LLC:

Exciting Times At A Local Company

By Matt Matayoshi, Executive Director

Sealaska Corporation, an Alaska Native-owned corporation based in southeast Alaska, acquired the assets of Olympic Tool & Engineering last December through its wholly owned subsidiary, Olympic Fabrication, LLC.

Olympic Fabrication is a manufacturer of a number of precision machined and fabricated parts with expertise in multiple industries including the aerospace, nuclear and defense sectors.  Olympic Fabrication’s skilled workforce is made up of machinists, programmers, welders and fabricators.

"We are excited about the formation of Olympic Fabrication. We will deliver even more cost effective and quality turnkey solutions to satisfy the needs of our customers," said Russell Dick, director of the Sealaska office of diversity solutions.

“Sealaska made considerable facilities improvements and plant upgrades,” said Don Putvin, Olympic Fabrication general manager. ”The implementation of new manufacturing principles and quality control measures will streamline operations.”

According to Putvin the company plans to add 11 employees by the end of May and an additional 20 employees by the end of the year. This will bring total employment to 80 by the end of 2007. “This is positive news for the community as the manufacturing sector is the highest paying private employment sector in the county,” he said.

Olympic manufactures a number of Boeing products and components including the passenger door handle box assembly for the 737. They also produce a number of small fittings, brackets and specialized titanium parts commonly found in the aerospace industry.

Olympic Fabrication’s ability to adapt and grow is made possible by the expertise and financial strength of Sealaska Corporation, making Olympic a stronger and more substantial contributor to the economic growth of Mason County . Mason county’s federal designation as a H.U.B Zone positions local companies competitively if they are seeking government contracts. Olympic Fabrication will continue to be an integral part of our community well into the future.
